Olenna WF winning the FEH yearling class, 2020
Olenna WF came home from the Flying Cross Horse Trials with a stunning 83.6% in the Future Event Horse yearling class from three-time Olympian and esteemed judge Peter Gray. Her score was the second-highest of the show (second only to our own entry in the 3-year-old class!) and I’ve received confirmation from the United States Eventing Association that this score was the highest score earned by a yearling in the country this year! Not too shabby for our filly pulled from the pasture that morning! Olenna’s overall impression scored a 9.0, and comments included “refined quality”, “beautiful head”, “well proportioned”; on her walk, “marching – big overstep”; on her trot, “light on feet”, “active hind”, “athletic”; and overall “impressive athlete”.
Olenna also qualified for the 2021 Future Event Horse Championships.
Olenna is a beautiful filly with an active hind end and a natural suspension to her gaits. She had been on the trailer once before show day, and loaded and hauled like an old pro, even unloading and loading repeatedly as we switched horses for classes. She is cool and collected even when removed from her “herd”, even at her young age and with her lack of experience. Olenna has the movement and presence to be an upper level contender in dressage plus the heart and power to excel in eventing or combined driving. She stands quietly crosstied/tied, to bathe, clip, groom and for the farrier, loads and hauls quietly, and is an absolute pleasure to work around.
Born right here on our farm, by our stallion Vanando A and out of our favorite and now sadly deceased broodmare Roseglow, Olenna represents the unique advantage and privilege of knowing your prospective equine competition partner’s complete history.
