Waypoint Beginnings

The horse pictured is CH Good Deal, a 2003 American Saddlebred gelding I bought in 2008, and the catalyst for Waypoint Farm. Doodad, as he is known in the barn, has done everything ever asked of him. A World Champion in the Saddlebred hunter division and the breed’s first record champion in that division; an accomplished jumper and sometime foxhunting mount; shown sidesaddle and also at open hunter shows, eventing mini trials and hunter paces – Doodad transitioned to being a full time driving horse in late 2015. My dream of competing in combined driving events, or CDE, began in May 2016 under the direction of world class driver and trainer Sterling D. B. Graburn.
Doodad’s stellar attitude, athleticism and work ethic are qualities that make a solid foundation for a competition horse, and qualities that I wanted to pass on if I were ever lucky enough to start a breeding program.
My dream of owning Doodad’s dam to begin my broodmare band began in late 2009 when she was consigned to the Tattersalls Fall Sale. Over the next several years I tried and failed to buy her, until the fall of 2017 when she was consigned to the Robertson Fall Sale.  The fourth time was our charm, and Highpoint’s Queen Merry is Waypoint Farm’s foundation broodmare. She is expecting a May 2018 foal.
